Anyone in the market for a three-row midsize SUV is probably considering the Telluride, which is the Top Rated selection in the class by Edmunds and the Car and Driver Editors’ Choice. The Telluride is an all-new nameplate from Kia. It is the automaker’s larger sports utility vehicle ever, and it is loaded with technologies and amenities even at the base level. In this segment, you may also be considering the Pathfinder. It may not be as critically acclaimed as the Telluride, but Nissan has put together a compelling package, so let us take a closer look at the 2020 Kia Telluride vs 2020 Nissan Pathfinder.
Exterior – 2020 Kia Telluride
The Telluride and Pathfinder are fundamentally similar in that they are both built on a 114.2-inch wheelbase. The Pathfinder, however, is 1.6 inches longer overall at 198.5 inches. The Telluride has a bit more width for stability and offers an inch more ground clearance at 8.0 inches. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard in both cases, but both automakers offer bigger wheels and optional wheel designs. In both cases, you will need to opt for at least the third trim to have the hands-free liftgate included.
Interior – 2020 Kia Telluride in Mississauga ON
Both the Telluride and Pathfinder can seat up to eight if you stick with the base second-row bench and can seat up to seven if you opt for the second-row captain’s chairs. Captain’s chairs are included with the upper trims, but you usually will have the option to delete them if you prefer the additional seat. The Telluride available 401 Dixie Kia offers 21 cubic feet of core cargo space and up to 87 whereas the Pathfinder gives you about 16 in the core area and a bit more than 79 overall.
Mechanical – Telluride specs in Mississauga
The 2020 Kia Telluride and the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder are both available as either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. FWD is standard but AWD is an option at the base trim levels and up. The Kia powertrain features a 3.8L V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Nissan powertrain features a 3.5L V6 engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The Kia engine comes out ahead in the performance department, however, delivering 291 horsepower—compared to 284 hp—and several more pound-feet of torque. Both the Telluride and Pathfinder can tow more than 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, but the Telluride EX and SX models benefit from a suspension with a load leveler. That advanced suspension is included when you opt for the trailer-tow package at those trim levels.
Technology – Telluride in Mississauga ON
Both the 2020 Kia Telluride and 2020 Nissan Pathfinder are excellent options when it comes to safety. The Telluride has already been selected as a 2020 Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, and while the results for the Pathfinder were not available as of this writing, a similar outcome is expected since the 2019 model earned it, and there are no fundamental changes for the new model. Both automakers offer robust base technologies, but Kia offers more, including an additional USB port and Apple and Android integration. Kia also offers more driver assists, including a blind-spot monitor and lane keeping assist system.
Trim Levels – 2020 Kia Telluride
Kia has launched the Telluride in four trim levels—LX, S, EX and SX—and you can test-drive all of them at your local Kia dealer serving Mississauga Etobicoke Brampton Toronto. The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder is available in four trim levels as well: S, SV, SL and Platinum. Both base trims are well-equipped, but Kia offers what is arguably the most robust base package in the class. The up-level Telluride adds bigger wheels and captain’s chairs whereas the up-level Pathfinder adds driver assists that bring it in line with Kia’s base offering. The EX and SL trims are luxury-oriented, and both the SX and Platinum includes just about all of the equipment standard and optional on the trims that come before them.
